When most people think of auctions, they think of the fast-talking, rapid-fire speaking style of theatrical auctioneers. But as it turns out, that isn’t the best way to run an auction. Just ask Rick Koftinoff from Rick’s Auction Galleries. “We don’t sell overly fast,” Rick says. “We try to keep a reasonable rhythm so that people understand what we’re saying. That way they’re more likely to bid.”
Rick acquired the gallery in 1996 after many years of experience working in auction houses. “My wife and I decided it was an entertaining business, and it would keep me occupied," he recalls. “So we said, ‘Let’s go for it.'” Today, the gallery houses weekly auctions for estates, storage lockers, private sellers and more.
