Shear Elegance Hair & Tanning Salon

Owned and operated since 1992 by Angie Duxbury, Shear Elegance Hair & Tanning Salon is truly a family-run business, with five generations of hairstylists in the mix. The Duxbury story starts in Germany where Angie’s grandparents ran a salon and her father Peter Rauser was a barber. Angie started cutting hair when she was 12 and, when she moved back to Canada, continued to share her passion with her kids. Now her daughter and granddaughter both work with her. “It’s astonishing,” says Angie. “It’s an art, and yet we all have the same type of art we like to do.”

Angie’s daughter Tanya is just as happy with the multi-generational legacy her hairdressing family has created. “Not just proud, extremely proud ” says Tanya. That's not to say that working with family doesn't have its issues. "I could have strangled my daughter a couple of times,” jokes Angie. The family members share a lot of laughs and have learned to work well together. “I know we have the same passion," Angie says. “We learn from each other. I am old school and she is new school, so I teach her things and she teaches me things and together we make it work."

“I’ve learned from two generations ahead of me,” agrees Tanya. “Things have changed an awful lot over the different eras. You incorporate the new with the old ideas. You intertwine them together and you come up with your own way of doing things.”
