In the mid-2000s the area on and around First Street Southwest between Ninth Avenue Southwest and 17th Avenue Southwest wasn’t in the best shape. Despite this, PJ L’Heureux ran a successful nightclub in the old Radio Block building on this strip of shops and restaurants in Beltline. As the city began to revitalize the area, PJ saw an opportunity to turn his space into something a little more neighbourhood friendly. So, in 2009, he reopened the venue as St. James Corner Restaurant & Irish Pub.  “We got lucky in the fact that the area was a forgotten corner of downtown,” says managing partner Jeff Beddoes, who joined the ownership group in 2010. “When it started to get revitalized, it became a hot spot for young professionals and for trendy shops and restaurants. We wanted to appeal to that crowd.”

Taking advantage of the century-old, redbrick building made the transition to a neighbourhood pub easier. “It has beautiful brick walls,” says Jeff. “It’s very nostalgic, and it gives it character. We wanted to make sure that we matched that and brought out all the subtle elements, for the best presentation possible.”

Love St.James Corner

If you are looking for a great place to meet up with friends to have some drinks and watch some sports, St. James Corner is the perfect atmosphere. It has flat screens positioned everywhere so you can enjoy the game and still socialize. The crowd is varies, it's not too young and not too old. The best part about St.James Corner for me is the food. Favorite menu items that are must: Mini Yorkies, Mini Sliders, Sweet Potato Fries, and the Nachos. Bathrooms are located downstairs but are always clean. The staff is very attentive and efficient.
