Authentic Southern Cuisine can be a little bit hard – but not impossible – to come by in Edmonton. Fried chicken, jambalaya, gumbo and endless piles of smoked meat can really hit the spot when you’re just hankering for some good old-fashioned comfort food. Check out these great spots to satisfy your craving!

Dadeo

10548A 82 Ave NW, Edmonton AB T6E 2A4

Dadeo is a retro ‘50s style diner, and you definitely feel like you’ve stepped through a time machine when you walk into the restaurant. They serve great southern classics, such as jambalaya and gumbo. This place is a great place to go on a cold winter day to get some great southern comfort food. I definitely recommend their southern fried chicken!

Meat Barbecue Ltd

8216 104 St Nw, Edmonton AB T6E 4E6

The title says it all: Meat, meat and more meat. This restaurant serves up nice piles of smoked meat. It really doesn’t get more southern than brisket, pulled pork and ribs, smoked at low heat for hours. All these different kinds of smoked meat can be served with some classic sides, such as macaroni and cheese, baked beans and garlic fries.

Tokiwa Ramen

106-11978 104 Ave NW, Edmonton AB T5K 0G6

TW’s BBQ Smoke House definitely has a nice, homey feel to it. When you walk into the restaurant, you’re blasted with the smell of slow-smoked meat. All of their sauces, rubs, and seasonings are all made in house. Serving up great sandwiches, burgers, and smoked meat, they really do Southern comfort food right. I definitely love their ribs and their cranberry orange chipotle BBQ sauce!

Sloppy Hoggs

9563 118 Ave NW, Edmonton AB T5G 0N9

Sloppy Hoggs Roed Hus serves up huge platters of smoked meats, sandwiches and exotic sausages. They serve alligator, kangaroo and wild boar sausages, in case you’re feeling adventurous! Their namesake sandwich comes with more than20 ounces of meat served on a waffle bun. Definitely come hungry, because the portions here are huge!

New Indian Sweets & Restaurant

6224 99 St Nw, Edmonton AB T6E 6C7

Fired Up BBQ has been serving up amazing southern BBQ for a number of years now. It’s located right on 99 Street and 62 Avenue. They serve great sandwiches and barbecue plates, and do take out, too. They have a large number of great Southern sides to try, as well. Nothing beats having some of their great southern comfort food, and then washing it down with their house-brewed iced tea! Yum!

Smokehouse BBQ

17820 107 Avenue, Edmonton AB T5S 1J1

Smokehouse BBQ is located right on 124 Street and 108 Avenue. It serves up a little bit of everything southern, including catfish, ribs, chicken, Cajun calamari and beef brisket. There are so many options for southern comfort here that you’re bound to find something you like. They also run a food truck during the summer months, where you can try their famous smoked bacon bomb.

The food truck scene in Edmonton has only gotten better over the last few years. And, what with us being the city known for its numerous festivals, there is no better venue than outdoors to pig out and enjoy some delicious food from the food trucks on a beautiful summer day. This short list is only few of many delicious trucks to choose from! [Image credit: iStock.com/Maica]
The great thing about noodles is how universal and international it is. In almost all cuisines around the world, there is some sort of noodle or pasta dish. Here is a list of different kinds of noodles from different kinds of cuisines in the world, each with its own twist.
Going out to eat can be a bit restrictive if you’re vegetarian. Options are limited, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go out for some good food! These restaurants are some of my favourite places for some vegetarian food! [Image credit: iStock.com/haoliang]
