“The thing I just love about cycling is that it’s empowering,” says Peter Woollcott, manager and mechanic at Bicycles at St Clair. “Riding a bike gives you the choice not to drive a vehicle or use public transport. It gives you independence.” Peter doesn't have a licence to drive and has no plans to get one anytime soon. “I’ve been cycling seriously since I was 12," he says, "and have probably had a less stressful life because of it.”
Peter spends 60 hours a week servicing and repairing bikes and dispensing the tips and advice he has garnered from his years of cycling experience. “As soon as I started this job, I was hooked,” he says. In addition to servicing and repairs, the shop also stocks a small but handpicked selection of used bikes.
